Brick-Breaker are a type of action games involving bouncing a ball to destroy blocks using a paddle. They often include power-ups, multiple ball mechanics, and destructible level designs.
The genre is known for its arcade roots, starting with “BreakOut”, the 1976 black and white arcade game which is historically famous for being engineered by Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs early in their careers when working for Atari.
Subsequently, almost 10 years later, Taito released the arcade game “Arkanoid” which takes the core gameplay mechanics of Atari’s BreakOut and soups it up with power-ups, transformations of the paddle and multiple levels consisting of different brick layouts and types.
A clever Flash variation of this game genre is GameOn’s “Fairy Treasure”.
